🔹Self Managed Claims
For NDIS Participants who manage their claims themselves and upload their own claims directly to the NDIS portal.
Option 1: Purchase from us and submit your claim to NDIS for reimbursement.
1. Add items to Cart 🛒 and checkout.
2. Pay upfront — your invoice will be emailed to you.
3. Upload the invoice to the NDIS portal to claim.
Option 2: Get NDIS to pay you first, then you pay us
1. Add items to Cart 🛒 and complete 'Request Invoice' section.
2. We'll email you an invoice - you upload this invoice to the NDIS portal.

Please allow up to 5 business days before contacting us about payment of your order - it can take several days for the funds to clear into our account.🔹NDIA Agency Managed Claims

Amazing!
"My son, who has ADHD and loves rough play and crashing all day loves this! It was compact and easily managed to get in the car and took only a few minutes to plump up. It's a great pillow that lets him run around and fall and get the sensory output he needs."
Really Handy
"Got these for my daughter to help her communicate during or after a meltdown — she loves filling them out and sliding them under her door to us!"
Frequently Asked Questions
What NDIS budget can I use for sensory products?
Some of our products may fall under the Consumables and Core Supports Budget — specifically low cost personal care and safety supports and assistive technology supports. Our three registered support categories are:
- ✔ 0103 — Assistive Products for Personal Care and Safety
- ✔ 0112 — Assistive Equipment for Recreation
- ✔ 0123 — Assistive Products for Household Tasks
Whether a product may be funded depends on your individual plan goals and the reasonable and necessary criteria. Check with your plan manager or support coordinator before purchasing.
How do I request an NDIS invoice?
Simple — no phone call required:
- ✔ Add your items to the cart
- ✔ Click "Request Invoice for NDIS or School" at checkout
- ✔ Fill in your NDIS number and participant details
- ✔ We email you a compliant tax invoice within 1 business day
Plan-managed participants: forward the invoice to your plan manager. Self-managed: use the invoice to lodge your claim via myGov.
What does "reasonable and necessary" mean?
For an NDIS purchase to be approved, the item must relate to your disability, help you achieve your NDIS plan goals, represent value for money, and not be something funded by another government program. A letter from your OT or therapist recommending the product can strengthen your claim.
How long does NDIS reimbursement take?
- ✔ Self-managed: 3–5 business days once lodged via the NDIS portal
- ✔ Plan-managed: 3–5 business days once your plan manager processes the invoice
- ✔ Agency-managed (NDIA): Variable — we lodge directly and dispatch once payment is confirmed
Please note: full payment is required before items are dispatched.
Is there a price limit on NDIS consumable claims?
For low cost consumables, the NDIS generally considers items under $1,500 as low cost supports that don't require prior approval. Items over this threshold may require additional evidence or an OT prescription. Most of our products fall well within the consumables price range.
Do I need a referral or OT letter?
For most low cost consumables under $1,500, you do not need a formal OT referral — the item just needs to align with your plan goals. However, having a letter from your OT can strengthen your claim and speed up plan manager approval. For higher-cost assistive technology, an OT assessment may be required.
Can I use NDIS funding for a sensory room fitout?
Individual sensory room products (mats, lighting, seating, acoustic panels) may be claimable as separate consumables under categories 0103, 0112, or 0123, depending on your plan goals. Always check with your plan manager or OT before purchasing. We also offer full sensory room fitout consulting and supply for schools, councils, and organisations.
Our NDIS Registration
The Sensory Specialist is a verified NDIS Registered Provider. Plan managers and support coordinators can confirm our registration on the NDIS Provider Register.

NDIS Claims
NDIS purchases - important information
Items may be bought with NDIS funds only where they are reasonable and necessary for the participant, support disability-related goals, relate to daily living/safety, and are low-cost/low-risk (generally under $1,500). For guidance, see the NDIS Participant Purchasing Guide (Section 10).
We provide standard tax invoices for NDIS claims. We do not determine NDIS eligibility or provide clinical advice.
Some claims may require documentation from your allied health professional. If you are unsure of your elibility requirements, check with your allied health professional, plan manager or support coordinator for further information.
Please note: we do not hold or ship items until full payment has been received.
